The first seeds of the "true" grapefruit tree to arrive in America were apparently sown in Barbados in the 17th century. However, the journey of this botanical species ends there. Indeed, a completely unexpected marriage will take place between a young grapefruit tree grown from these seeds and an orange tree whose ancestors had immigrated to American soil 2 centuries earlier. This unusual couple will give rise to a new species, the first of the Citrus genus to be born outside the limits of its territory, Southeast Asia.
